Day Seven

We had breakfast in the hotel and headed out to Willemstad for shopping and sightseeing. We found some good deals and bought a new suitcase just because it was so cool. We may need it to haul back all the alcohol we plan on buying at the distillery later this week. At the end of the shopping Austin went into a CD store to get one of the local artists, we picked the one who put a picture of his grandma on the front. It sounds like something they play at Chi-Chi's, but Austin likes it.

The floating bridge is bigger than I expected, I was imagining floating planks on barrels. It's all paved, although there's not much on the other side of the bridge, it's all locals and eventually ghettos. Everything closes down from 12 to 2, the sun gets too hot and everyone just lounges around in the shade. I had always wondered what a siesta was like. We ended the afternoon at the largest grocery store on the island and got some fixins for breakfasts and lunches.

Breakfast today for some toast and fruit was $26, so it's quite nice we have our own little kitchen. Plus, I have never been too big on eating out so it's nice to have some small, normal meals in-between the big opulent dinners. Dinner was chinese food at a little place in Salina that's been here for 40 years. The variety of food here is really surprising to me, since it doesn't seem like a tourist island and there are some pretty eclectic selections. We'll do African ostrich later this week. We went back to the hotel for a late-night bottle of wine (that was included in the honeymoon hoo-hah) and a midnight swim in the hotel's beautiful pool.
