Since I didn't have nearly enough hobbies on my list, I decided to give knitting another try. It had always seemed like the perfect hobby for me, what with the constant playing with fuzzy things, but every time I tried to learn it was always incredibly tight and I would give up after two rows. I even roped Deonna into teaching me crochet once, with the hope I'd still get all the benefits of fuzzy toys and only one aluminum implement of death. No dice.
We were up in California a few months ago and Ellen (Austin's mom) had started it up. We had a Helen Keller-ish session, and it finally just clicked. I started a scarf that's taken me way too long to finish due to lack of free time. Here I am modeling it like a young Parisian lady walking with her small dog and pretending a dog stick is one of those "Breakfast at Tiffany's" cigarette holders.
For my next trick, I've started a sweater! It's this one from a book called "Vintage Knits" (the fourth and fifth pages in, please). Purple's not exactly my thing, so it's done in a nice dusky rose color with cream trim. Most astonishing to me is the fact that it's recognizable! Go figure! Here's my sweater-type substance (or the back, anyway:
Austin's told me that I am in NO WAY allowed to make a sweater for the dog. She's got a coat already, he says. It would be weird, he says. Maybe Raymond will let me make a sweater for his new dog.

next time i see her, i'll teach Sydney to bark, "Deonna says I don't have to!"
Posted by: d on January 9, 2005 09:39 PMI know, I know. It's just that there's a way to possibly combine my two new hobbies, and it seems like a shame. Kind of a "peanut butter in my chocolate / chocolate in my peanut butter" kind of thing.
