Pupdate

First things first (I know why you're here): Sydney plays outside. I've got another movie, but she moves so fast the camera can't keep up and it looks like she's doing the robot.

Dog ownership is exhausting. I am constantly reminded of Dana Carvey's old stand-up routine where he compares having a child to adopting a 90 year old man. Puppy ownership is similar, but it's more like adopting a 90 year old Sicilian man. He doesn't even speak the language, has totally different customs than us, and doesn't understand when we try to explain that chewing holes in the carpet is not acceptable. "Scusilo, signore, prego non urinate sulla moquette."

Austin and I are getting used to her, and she's definitely feeling more at home. We both have the tendency to watch her like a hawk. Austin's worried she's going to pee inside the house again, and I'm worried she's going to fall down the stairs or meet some other untimely doom. The dog just yawns and chews on her toy. I know it will just take time for everyone to get used to each other, but until that happens we're both a little tense. We took her for her first checkup yesterday and everything's A-OK, so that made us both feel better. It's a good thing she's so adorable, or this would be a lot less fun.

you realize that a pet is a precursor to a CHILD. ;)

meh. I think it's a delaying factor to having a child. This amount of stress and poop in something that I'm not legally obligated to raise is quite enough, thank you.

Soon you'll be like my friends Nate and Missy. They keep upping their "delay the baby" tactics so much, they have like 10 pets and 20 houseplants.

I should email Nate and get some pointers!

Why not use the REAL movie camera and get some sounds of her puppyhood? Just asking.

And I'm awfully sure you ARE legally obligated!

Love, Ellen
