I never wanted to be one of those people who chats about drywall and home improvement. The flip side of that is I then have nothing to say, usually. We've been in the middle of a major push on the house since we have visitors coming out this weekend and next. There's never any requirement to do any of this, but I still didn't like having a baby-themed room in our house. It's totally redone now and the chinese bathroom is almost there as well.
This weekend we were down in Texas for our nephew's first birthday party. Kids are fine, kids I like. The problem is when there are 13 of them all under 2 eating lunchables and watching the wiggles. It was too much chaos, too much activity all at once. The parents seemed to realize that and the entire party didn't last too long. In the short window between naps those babies partied hearty and the birthday boy did a nose dive into his cake. That'll teach his Mom for witholding sugar up until now.
I am rapidly developing a role in Austin's family as the fix-it-person. And I LOVE it. I love that the new sports-crazy macho brother-in-law doesn't mind asking a girl 10 years his junior how to fix the garage door, and I love even more the fact that I CAN fix it within 5 minutes. That entire family has a lovely, non-sexist attitude and it is quite refreshing after some of the crap I have to put up with from the cranky old poops at work. Also fixed this weekend: A new radio flyer wagon assembled with only a screwdriver and a pair of needlenose pliers, a laminator / sticker machine thing, and instructions on how to fix a doorknob-sized hole in the wall. See? I started with drywall and I'm ending with drywall.
