The comment spam here was getting excessive, I was getting about 20 fake comments a day. I'd make some change to try and trick them, and things would clear up for a few weeks. After I used up all of my ideas and was still getting spam like crazy, I finally bit the bullet and upgraded to the paid version of Moveable Type. The cool thing about the new upgrade is I can now use the plugins other people have created, and the first one installed is the bestest spam-stopper of all. It's automatically killing the ones I don't want, and is postponing ones I think might be shady until I can review them and give the okay. If you don't see your comment post right away, it's because you triggered something and I'll have to check it out and approve it first. More to hopefully come: a spellchecker and a redesign. The new behind-the-scene screens look so pretty, it makes me want to brush up the front page.
Posted by Janine at March 09, 2005 10:16 AMAll right Janine, time to test this anti-spam baby out. YOU TOO can make money in your spare time by becoming a V I A G A R A saleswoman! Make up to $50 million d0llars a day! But wait, there’s more! Act now and we’ll throw in a top notch mortgage, where you only have to pay interest for the never-ending life of the loan! Equity is overrated! No other way to so quickly and easily lower your monthly bill payments while putting cash now-now-now in your pocket! And now for the crap at the bottom of every spam that seems to have no meaning:
paunch tw cytology grn napoleonic arb autumnal sd boldface za reverent
ofu appointe tmt protector ezy
lol. why DO they put that at the end?
Posted by: d on March 9, 2005 04:57 PMAnd, why did my comment make it into your blog without you having to approve it?
Posted by: Shawn on March 9, 2005 05:38 PMMainly because you didn't have any links.
And even if you did have some questionable links in there, as long as you post as you I give you more weight in the system. Watch, the spammers will now all start posting as "Shawn".
BTW, I love the use of the word "napoleonic". I will work that into conversations no less than five times today.
