Austin's last trip out to my place in Midland was uneventful. Friday we spent all day just getting things ready. Lots of sewing, I mounted the ketubah on some foamboard so we'd be able to sign it, finishing laundry and packing. Saturday was the final fitting for the dress. Things look good, since I had a lingering terror it wouldn't fit and I'd need to do a frantic liquid diet-type thing. Thankfully, everything's fine.
Saturday was the last hurrah of fun before the wedding with Kim, Carrie, Abby, and D. It was a good time, just lots of red and blue drinks and no trashy toys or strippers. Sunday we met with Tina's for the last time. I simply love the woman who runs the place. She's done this for 30 years and has seen it ALL, and is so calm and easygoing it's stellar. She's acting as our wedding coordinator-type, so I have nothing to worry about. I drove back last night and did some more sewing and some last few projects for the folks at work. I wanted to thank the maintenance group for all their help so I made them an electric hammer (by drilling a hole and gluing in an extension cord). Matt has been my mentor-type person here, so I'm making him a trophy. I went to Toys R Us and found an action figure of "regular guy". I'm screwing him to a wooden base and I have a small engraved plaque that says "Best Engineer Ever" under his name. So, fun but silly. I found out after I bought the toy he talks when you pull his arms and legs, saying things like "Get them!" "Stop!" and for some reason makes a clanking chain noise when you turn his head to the left. Awesome, since I use those phrases daily as an engineer.
Posted by Janine at July 21, 2003 02:41 PMYour Hamster is hypnotic. For some reason, I can't stop watching him. I love when he pushes his little plastic furniture around, desperate to get the hollow plastic TV toy in just the proper place according to some Hamster Feng Shui. He puts out a lot of BTUs of heat during the night too. It was pretty cool in the library last night, but this morning it was actually somewhat hot, with the windows and door closed. HamsterHeat(tm) system in action, I guess.
Posted by: Steve on July 21, 2003 04:12 PMHrmm... he might be trying to replace the furniture after the 'earthquake' that was the car ride down from Midland. He was in the TV up until the first turn... after that, he didn't leave the confines of the toilet paper tube.
Posted by: Austin on July 21, 2003 04:47 PMHe turned his tube into confetti, and made his potty into a nest (lined with the cardboard confetti).
Posted by: Steve on July 22, 2003 08:44 AMYep, he does that. I usually give him a new tube and dump out the potty so he's got something to do and it doesn't smell. I'm sure he just hates that, since as soon as he gets done I clear it out again.
Posted by: Janine on July 22, 2003 08:57 AMYeah. I took his house outside on the porch, put him into his ball, and let him run around on the sidewalk for 30 minutes. He seemed used to running in a ball with more friction under it, since he got it going faster than he could handle, and then ended up doing somersaults until it stopped. He kept rolling on top of the same leaf from different directions and examining it. Pretty fun.
