Zzzz's

Once again, I didn't check AM or PM on the alarm last night and managed to mistakenly get twelve hours of sleep. I'm glad I got that much, since I obviously needed it, but today feels insane. I feel like I only had an hour at home before heading into work again, and it's not helping my temperament. This week has picked up a *lot* at work, and I finally feel like a contributing member of the team, instead of someone killing time. I'd still rather be busy instead of bored but the past days have been nutzo, and it feels like 19 hours straight of the same nutzoness.

In other bad news, we've encountered our first big problem with the wedding. If you want a catholic wedding, it's mandated by the bishop that you can't have an outdoor ceremony. I honestly never thought it would be a problem, and we now have two possible solutions. 1.) Have a catholic ceremony (just a nuptual mass, not the whole shebang) on Saturday. It's about 20-30 minutes long, and we risk alienating half of the people attending. One important member in particular has said they would not be attending the wedding at all if it was held in a catholic church. Or, 2.) Have two weddings. Have the catholic ceremony friday or earlier saturday, and have a justice of the peace marry us again saturday evening in front of everyone. The third option, to be married by only a justice of the peace and have it outside is not really an option at all.

It's so frustrating! The reasoning behind it is since it's a sacrament, it neds to be held on sacred ground. They can't marry people anywhere, since that opens up roller coasters and tops of mountains and such. My thinking is they didn't want to deal with things on a case-by-case basis, and just made a blanket rule. Some people have gotten special dispensations to have the ceremony in non-denominational chapels, but no one I've talked to has ever managed one outside. *sigh.* At least they're not having issues with Austin not being Catholic. If they did, I'd rain down some smackdown.

That's what I'm sayin'!! At least there's someone else who's familiar with a church that's on our side!

shawn, that's fantastic. i'd probably go for having a justice of the peace do your outdoor bit with religion but not RELIGION. and then get... um... re-married?... later in a church with your immediate familes and a witness or two. before god and all that. is that possible? or do we get to dress up twice? hey, if i'm paying $200 for a dress, i'll be wearing it when i vacuum. (now, where have i heard THAT before?)

what is the difference between a catholic ceremony and a non-catholic one? the justice of the peace can talk about jesus outside. or shawn can. i can stand alongside and quote c.s. lewis. it'll be fun!

Okay, here's what you do. You find a priest that's willing to bless the ground outside where the wedding will be...It doesn't even have to be an eternal blessing. Can't he bless it with a three hour expiration date? That way, no one can complain because it would be held on sacred ground. And don't believe them if they tell you they can't do it, because if they can bless water, they can bless dirt. :)
